Duty Patrol

The duties of the duty patrol are:

  1. To ensure that all patrols and leaders are woken at the correct time during reveille. The duty PL may borrow an alarm clock from a leader if required.
  2. To keep the water containers in the central cooking area full at all times.
  3. To light the alter fire prior to each meal for the purpose of burning rubbish.
  4. To keep the woodpile stocked to a sensible level.
  5. 10 minutes prior to an activity - report to Skip when all patrols are ready to leave site and that they are dressed correctly and have the right equipment with them.
  6. To prepare the flag for flag break prior to inspection.
  7. To carry out small tasks as requested by a leader.

Notes to PLs and APLs

You are good campers - please remember that it is your job to pass this knowledge on to the younger and less experienced scouts and cubs. Some useful tips are:

  1. Don't just tell someone to do something - explain it properly and make sure they understand what it is you want them to do - if necessary show them.
  2. Help the younger ones to make up their beds properly. Show them how to tie the tent doors properly in case they have to get up in the night.
  3. Keep yours and their kit tidy. Correct use of dirty bags.
  4. Practice good camp hygiene.
  5. At shower/wash times - be the last to leave to ensure that your patrol has taken all of their belongings with them and that the washrooms have been left clean.
  6. Do not leave the younger ones on their own and unsupervised. This can lead to boredom, mischief and sometimes homesickness.
  7. If you are unsure or are having any kind of difficulty with any of your patrol, speak to a leader who will guide/assist you.
  8. Lead by example.

Remember - A happy patrol is a good patrol
